Huge props to everyone who got down and dirty with us at Innerflight’s Red-Eye Afterhours Friday night! It was not only our best set so far, but the single most amazing experience of our lives! We were blown away by the energy in there, and our overflooded brains are still decompressing…
The show was an extremely personal milestone for Nerd Revolt. You know the story: two loners searching for the right outlet for their inspiration, but getting burned out on the music scene… the negativity brings them both to the point of giving up, but their forces collide in Seattle– leading to a rebirth of their dreams and explosions of new ones.
This past year and a half has been full of huge emotional breakthroughs, and as our friendship’s evolved, so has our creativity. Friday’s set symbolized everything we’ve been through together, so it was extremely personal to share it with everyone…
Damn, there couldn’t have been a better spot to throw down the NR sound! The Electric Tea Garden was at capacity by 2am, and the dance floor was hot, sweaty, and rumbling with bass. The first part of our set was a sexed-up, psychedelic head trip, and then from “Supermental” ’til the end, we banged it out. We went on a journey through the ominous, gritty, and twisted, bringing it back to the deep, soulful vibe we started out with. The crowd was absolutely amazing, flowing with us every step of the way!
That night made me appreciate how tactile our rig (aka “The Great”) is– it let us be completely spontaneous and interactive with each other and the crowd. Going into our dual synth/vocal/glitch jams and vibing off each other was insane! During the whole set, we felt connected with everyone in the room and tapped into this intense energy, feeding it back to the dance floor. After clocking in zillions of studio hours this year, it was the ultimate payoff for the work we’ve done.
October will be a hectic month for us, as we’re packing up for San Francisco and finishing up the EP. We’ll keep you guys posted on NR: Phase 2!
Nerd Revolt is celebrating our first release on Beatport! It features the remastered version of m.0′s “Lift Us Up”, alongside remixes by Mynus, Spektre, and NR. Brought to you by the badasses at Innerflight Music, the release is also available on iTunes, Amazon, and eMusic.

Today’s my 30th birthday, and I’d like to celebrate by making an important announcement:
I’M FROM NEW YORK FUCKING CITY.
That’s right– I said it. It’s the city I was born in, lived in, cut my teeth in…. It’s where my parents started their life in the States, struggling to survive after escaping the Vietnam War. My dad still works and lives there after more than 30 years. It’s taken me so long to fully appreciate and embrace all of this, but now there’s no turning back!
I’ve always had a complex about it, though.
First of all, New Yorkers are so territorial about their city. People from Long Island and Upstate New York never, EVER dare call themselves New Yorkers, and the bridge-and-tunnel crowds are all lumped together and looked down on with scorn.
Second of all, I spent my childhood in New Jersey, which is the object of major hatred and ridicule. Yeah, the Turnpike is gross, and the mall-loving Jersey girls with their 5 pounds of makeup and fake tans are a joke…
But after living on the West Coast for 3 years and making a bunch of trips back, I now realize that New York will always be home. I grew up being exposed to so much culture and diversity, going to Chinatown, the Met, seeing Broadway shows… none of that cheesy-ass Times Square Mickey Mouse shit!
I was a complete outcast growing up, and all the kids in high school hated me. Those preppy assholes in their fancy clothes and brand new Mercedes taunted me for dying my hair green and shopping at Salvation Army (long before hipsters raided them, or even the word “hipster” existed).
New York was where I escaped to– I could walk around and not be stared at or feel alienated. I finally felt accepted, nurtured, and inspired. The seeds of my dreams and ambition were planted here. In my 20s, the lessons I learned became harder and more unforgiving, but I’ll take them with me for life.
Okay, enough sappiness… I’d like to share a few things that I heart about New York– the city that I call home.

PIZZA.
You know the stereotype that New Yorkers never trust it outside New York? Well, it’s true. Why? Because it’s goddamn perfect here. My favorite slice is from Joe’s on Carmine Street.

NEW YORK CHEESECAKE.
Believe the hype. My vote goes to Junior’s and Veniero’s.

24-HOUR RESTAURANTS.
Here’s one of the best brunch spots ever: 7A! For 13 bucks, you get a main dish (omelette, french toast, pancakes, etc.), home fries or salad, coffee, and a choice of Bloody Mary, mimosa, screwdriver, or fresh squeezed juice. BLISS.

THE EAST VILLAGE.
Downtown, baby, downtown! This is my favorite ‘hood in the city, and one of the most unique places in the universe. I was born here and my first New York apartment was here, so I’ve definitely got a strong connection to it.

MUSEUMS.
I make a stop at the MOMA each time I visit. There’s nothing like seeing van Gogh, Matisse, Monet, CĂ©zanne, Picasso, and Warhol on one floor! The Guggenheim…well, the Guggenheim is just ridiculous.

SUBWAY MUSICIANS.
This guy was rocking some Hendrix, and after I took his picture he asked if I thought he looked intimidating. I said no, and he was pretty disappointed!
That’s it for now… keep it locked to dejaded for more New York-inspired bizness!
